The Miami Shores Community Alliance was founded in the early 1980s, when the Village Mayor invited residents to support civic and community projects that would strengthen neighborhood ties and benefit local families. What began as an informal group of dedicated citizens grew into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a lasting presence in the Village.

In the early 1990s, the Alliance launched its first fundraising event to provide grant funding for nonprofit member organizations, expanding their reach in education and charitable services. Over the years, Alliance grants have supported programs for every stage of life—from pre-kindergarten through senior citizens—partnering with schools, churches, the Fine Arts Commission, homebound meal delivery programs, and local service organizations.

Today, the Alliance represents more than 30 local organizations and operates entirely through the efforts of volunteers. By participating in Miami Shores activities, you are among the 11,000+ residents who benefit from the Alliance’s work and its partners’ commitment to enhancing the quality of life in our community.

Robert Bourne is among the most well-known realtors in the Miami Shores area. Robert has a reputation as a consummate professional. Over the past three decades, his business success is well-documented. Perhaps much less of a spotlight has been placed on Bob as a champion volunteer. In this aspect of Miami Shores life, he is indefatigable, and unmatched by peers. He is the Miami Shores Community Alliance’s top donor. Bob has a deep understanding of the effect of Alliance Grants, as he has seen their effect first-hand.

Bio

Myrtha Wroy, MSM, is a senior-level business consultant with over 30 years’ expertise in Government Procurement and Acquisitions. She is the founder and lead consultant at Wroy Consulting, a Miami-based firm that works with emerging and established businesses, preparing them to expand their lines of business and revenue streams by qualifying for federal, state and/or local contracts and opportunities, turning them into sustainable parts of the public sector supply chain.

Myrtha holds a master’s degree in science management from St. Thomas University; a Bachelor of Individualized Studies (BIS) degree in Contract Management from George Mason University.

As an active part of her South Florida community, Myrtha volunteers as Treasurer for the Miami Shores Community Alliance. She is an active member of Sosyete Koukouy (a worldwide Haitian Cultural Organization designated to preserve the Kreyol language and the Haitian culture through literacy, music, and art), the Miami Book Fair, and the Little Haiti Book Festival. She is fluent in English, French and Haitian Kreyol.

Bio

Alice Burch holds a degree in Nursing from Barry University. She recently completed an eight-year term as an elected official for Miami Shores, serving as Mayor, Vice Mayor, and Councilwoman. She is a founding board member of Doctors Charter School of Miami Shores, a municipal charter School serving grades 6-12. Her past civic involvements include: Miami Shores Chamber of Commerce Board, Miami Country Day School, Miami Shores Presbyterian Church School, Brockway Memorial Library Board of Trustees. Ms. Burch’s special interest is infrastructure improvement, and she enjoys the work of championing pedestrian and cyclist safety.

Sharon Thompson

Bio

Sharon Thompson has lived in South Florida for over 30 years. She currently owns and operates an employment agency, which she opened in 1997. Prior to that, she worked in the legal field. She has served on the boards of Feeding South Florida, Camillus Health, Camillus House, the Miami Chapter of the Buoniconti Fund, Friends of WLRN, and the Florida Bar Grievance Committee, as well as several other local non-profits. She is committed to serving the community in South Florida.
